Lobster Feast

2023. Watercolor

I painted this to capture a memory from my time at a Colby College summer program in Maine. I used watercolor to add a hazy, dreamlike quality to the painting. I wanted the lobster to be the element that stood out most in the painting, so I used a very deep, saturated red for the shell. I struggled with the face, it was difficult to have a great level of detail in such a small area, but I was happy with how it turned out, especially the purple shadows in the face.
